Our Journey

At Chasqui, we're on a mission to bring the spirit of exploration and cultural appreciation to life through sustainable, high-quality, functional outdoor apparel. Inspired by the chasquis—legendary Incan messengers who ran across the Andes delivering vital communications—we aim to fuse tradition and functionality. Our vision is simple: create outdoor gear that not only performs in nature but also celebrates Peru’s rich heritage.
Chasqui’s journey from concept to full-scale venture took shape with the help of the Blackstone LaunchPad and the Watson Foundation, during my time in college. Both programs were crucial turning points for us. Through their support, we received an important grant that enabled us to travel and explore the Andes, learning everything about outdoor clothing (and Alpacas), while conducting market research, setting up our small production line, and bringing our first prototypes to life. These fellowships validated the potential of our idea and empowered us to transform a passion into a tangible project.
My three-month internship at a Norwegian outdoor clothing brand, renowned for its commitment to sustainability and for bringing their customers to nature, was pivotal. As a Sustainability Intern, I gained invaluable insights into the business of outdoor clothing, from material sourcing and impact to business operations. This experience helped solidify my approach to Chasqui—ensuring that sustainability would remain a core pillar of our designs, without compromising on performance or cultural authenticity.
Another transformative phase in building Chasqui was the year-long journey me and Gabi undertook through southern Peru. From Puno to Colca, we worked closely with local artisans and farmers, immersing ourselves in the world of alpacas and natural fibers. These travels taught us not only about the versatility of alpaca wool but also about the incredible traditions that surround its use. It was during these experiences that the vision for the Colca Hoodie truly began to take form—an outdoor garment that combines centuries-old craftsmanship with the functionality and comfort that modern adventurers seek.
The Colca Hoodie, made from premium alpaca fiber and designed with performance in mind, is a direct result of these lessons. It’s more than just a piece of clothing; it’s a celebration of Peru’s heritage, designed for today’s outdoor enthusiasts. We incorporated local embroidery, which we call "TamboThread", to honor the artisans of the Colca region, ensuring each hoodie tells a story of tradition, sustainability, and modern utility.
With your support, we hope to continue this journey—one that connects people to both nature and Peru’s vibrant history, while changing the outdoor industry for good.
The Team

We're starting small, with a lot of help from truly incredible people!
Our knitting team is currently based in Arequipa, south of Peru. With the help of Señor Armando and Señora Veronica, we've learned the process of knitting, dying and everything related to apparel production - even knitting a hoodie from start to finish! They are the expert hands behind the Colca Hoodie. In their small knitting factory, we've designed, prototyped and tested interesting hoodie versions and features to perfection.
As for Gabriela and myself, we bring our own unique passions to Chasqui. With my background in economics, I handle the business side and analytics, ensuring that we stay true to our mission while crushing the numbers. A lifelong traveler, I’ve always been drawn to new cultures and discovering places that connect me deeper with the world around me. Having lived in Peru for several years, I've developed fascination and love for the country's culture, history, and people.
Gabi is a Peruvian nature enthusiast with a degree in architecture. She’s a weekend nomad, always seeking the next trek to disconnect and recharge. Her love for the outdoors, Peru, and creative eye inspire much of our brand’s idendity.
Our shared passion for the outdoors, Peru, and apparel functionality, drives everything we do at Chasqui. We ensure every aspect of the brand honors the Chasqui's spirit of exploration and the beauty of Peru’s cultural heritage.
